Things to Know About Your Camper Rental

What You Need to Know About your Potential or Scheduled Camper Rental

Please note, the following applies to campers rented through Explore the Lands. They do not reflect what may or may not be included if you are renting from a third party source, such as a different private owner or camper-sales location. If you have been looking in multiple locations for a camper rental, please check out our blog post “What is included in my camper rental?’

Linens and Towels – All bed linens and kitchen towels are included. Please launder prior to returning, otherwise we can launder them for you for a $30 fee.  If you prefer, you may use your own linens. (Bed sizes are 1 queen and 3 double beds on Keystone and Surveyor, 1 queen and 1 double on R-Pod, 1 queen, 1 double on Rockwood A-Frame).

Propane – There are two 20 lb propane tanks attached to the camper (one on the R-Pod).  They are not guaranteed to be full, so if you are planning to use a large amount of propane you may supply your own 20 lb propane tank (standard size like you would use for a grill).  If you are on a longer trip and use a lot of propane you can also switch out a tank at most gas stations or pay $20 to have us exchange the tank afterwards. Most weekend trips will use only a fraction of a tank, especially if you have access to electricity.

Optional Kitchen Package – $20 – (Free on the Keystone & Surveyor) If you did not rent the kitchen package initially and would like it, please let us know. Includes pots, pans, electric skillet, coffee maker, toaster, kitchen utensils, plates and silverware. All items must be returned clean.  No paper products are provided.

Optional Outdoor Gas Grill – $20 – Includes one small propane bottle.  Please return clean.(Rent both the Kitchen package and Grill – $30)

Optional Generator – $40 per day (discounts for 6+ days) – No access to electricity? We can provide a 3500 watt generator.  (Large enough for air conditioning and noise levels at only 57 decibels). Renter provides their own standard unleaded gas.

Optional Cleaning Fee – $50 per hour – Only applies if camper is not returned in the same condition as received and needs additional cleaning.

Things to be aware of if you are pulling:

Camper Pick Up

It is vital that the driver and person whose name is on the Rental Application be the person picking up the trailer on the day of departure to sign the Rental Agreement with a valid Driver’s license. Our insurance company restricts us from releasing a vehicle to a substitute such as a spouse, child, parent, friend, etc.

Timing

Your departure will take about an hour to sign the papers, perform the comprehensive interior and exterior orientation and familiarization walk through that will instruct you on the safe use of our trailer.

Liability Waiver

If you are extending coverage from your personal insurance provider or using our commercial insurance (not paying a daily insurance fee) there must be an insurance binder on file stating that Liability will extend back to the Rental Travel Trailer. If we do not have this proof at time of pick-up the Travel Trailer will not be released for rental.  Please request more information if you are not sure what this is.

Daily Insurance through Wheelbase/Outdoorsy

If you are paying the daily insurance through Wheelbase, the driver must be approved through the website prior to pick up.

Hitch

We provide an anti-sway hitch on the larger campers to enhance the safety of pulling the trailer. Hitch height must be 18” to 21” from the ground to the top of the hitch ball. Allow 1” – 2” of drop when trailer is attached to your vehicle. The travel trailer you are renting requires a 7-wire connection plug and some require an electric braking system; be sure that has been installed prior to pick-up.

Electric Brakes

An electric brake controller is required to be installed in your tow vehicle for the Keystone Passport and Forest River Surveyor.  There is an electric brake system on the RPod and Rockwood as well, and they will not work without an electric brake controller, so we strongly recommend one on those rentals as well.  You may have an integrated factory installed controller (less common) or your tow vehicle may require an aftermarket controller. Ensure your trailer brake controller is set up correctly; you shouldn’t feel excess pushing or pulling or jerking from the trailer while braking.  As this item is specific to the vehicle that is pulling it, we regret that we cannot offer one with your rental.

Example of Electronic Brake Control

Electric Plug-Ins and Adapters

All of our campers run off 30 amp camper plug-ins. The plug in looks like the black plug in on the left, and can plug into an outlet similar to that on the right image. Most campgrounds accept this 30amp plug in. If the location you are taking the camper does not offer 30 amp power, you can use an adapter similar to the yellow one pictured to plug it into a standard 110 volt outlet. Please note the air conditioning most likely will not work on this lower power supply. high levels of power can trip the breaker. We provide adapters such as these, which can also be helpful if you are taking it home first to cool down the fridge overnight.

Tanks

Just a reminder that Gray and Black tanks must be returned empty.  (No black tank on A-Frame). If not returned empty, there is a $100 dumping fee as we do not have a place to dump at the storage locations. If we are picking up the camper emptying the tank is included in the delivery price, provided there is a free dump site on location.
